A Driveway That Adds Value
To Your Home — Not Just
A Surface to Park On
Burton Builds installs driveways that combine kerb appeal with structural integrity. Proper sub-bases, correct falls, permeable options and materials that look as good in five years as they do on day one.
What Our Driveway Service Includes
A driveway is one of the first things visitors and potential buyers see when they approach your property. At Burton Builds, we design and install driveways that combine visual impact with lasting structural performance across Crawley, Horsham and the wider West Sussex area.
We offer block paving, resin bound, tarmac, gravel, and natural stone driveways. Every installation includes full excavation, sub-base preparation, edge restraints, correct drainage falls and surface finishing.
Our driveway service is for homeowners who want a surface that handles daily vehicle use without sinking, cracking, or becoming waterlogged.
Professional installation matters because driveways bear significant load from vehicles, temperature changes and water exposure. Without correct sub-base depth, compaction and drainage, even premium surface materials will crack and deteriorate.

Tarmac and Block Paved Driveways
From clean tarmac with defined block edging to decorative block paving with gravel borders — we deliver driveway surfaces that combine visual appeal with structural durability for everyday vehicle use.

What Goes Wrong With a Badly Installed Driveway
The most common driveway failure is subsidence — areas that sink, dip or develop ruts where vehicles park. This happens when the sub-base is too shallow or poorly compacted.
Drainage failure is the second most common issue. Driveways without correct falls direct water towards your house foundations.
Many budget driveway installers skip edge restraints, meaning outer blocks gradually spread, crack and separate.
Homeowners who choose the cheapest quote typically spend 40-60% more over five years in repairs than those who invest in proper installation.

Driveway Materials, Options and Technical Details
Block paving remains the most popular driveway surface in West Sussex. We install clay pavers, concrete blocks and natural stone setts in herringbone, stretcher bond and basketweave patterns.
Resin bound driveways use natural aggregate stones bonded with UV-stable resin to create a smooth, permeable surface. This option is SuDS compliant by default.
Tarmac driveways provide a cost-effective, durable surface suitable for larger areas. We lay tarmac in two courses over a properly prepared sub-base.
Gravel driveways are the most affordable option. We install gravel over a geotextile membrane on compacted sub-base, with proper edge containment.
Sub-base preparation is the foundation of every driveway we build. We excavate to a minimum of 200mm for pedestrian use and 250-300mm for vehicle use.
All front garden driveways over 5 square metres of impermeable surface require planning permission unless permeable materials are used. We advise on this during consultation.
